Built as an C-47B c/n 26876 in 1944 and although initially allocated USAF serial 43-49615, taken up by the USN with BuNo 50821 as a R4D-6. After service at NAS Olathe, Patuxent River, Columbus, Quonset Point and South Weymouth, rebuilt as R4D-8 with new c/n 43322. Operated at NAS Rota, El Centro, Moffett Field and China Lake. Ferried from the Naval Weapons Center at NAS China Lake to the museum in 1982

Former Yugoslav Air Force 71288, ex 42-92970 is on display at the transport and technology museum in Istanbul for many years.

Delivered to the USAAF as 41-18472 in 1942. Sold as NC57626 in 1947. Reregistered as N57626 in 1949. Current on the register in 2025.

Operated by Australian National Airways, its successors and subsidiaries from 1945 to 1972 when it was donated to a children's charity. After 13 years in a playground it became a McDonald's restaurant at Midland, Western Australia, then a museum and finally ended up at rural property at Myalup.

30 Apr '42: TOS USAAF as C-53 42-6474. Beginning in 1945 the plane went through many owners. Registrations included XA-DUI, XA-HIP, N5139B, N46TE, N162E. Ca.1993: Viking Express/Robert Burwell, IL. Ca.1994: Pelican Air/Robert Burwell with c/r N22RB. By Jul '95: Vintage Airways/Robert Burwell. Feb '98: Jade Software Corporation, Boca Raton, FL. 13 Aug 2004: Destroyed by Hurricane Charley.

29 Jan '42: TOS USAAF as C-53 41-20095 and assigned to Bolling Field, Washington, DC. Mar '42: Ferry Command, Presque Isle Army Air Field, ME. Jul '42: North Atlantic Wing of Air Transport Command. There is some information which says this plane was in the Pacific Theatre for a short time and that for two months it was used as General MacArthur's personal transport. Ca.Nov '42 to ca. May '43: Participated in Operation Torch. Sep 45: Begin life in civilian world. Oct '64: Ohio State Became primarily a transport for Ohio's governor, using the calls sign "Ohio One." Sep 1977: Air Force Museum.

Delivered to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) as Dakota serial number A65-73. Assigned to 37 Squadron with call sign VH-CIP and fuselage code OM-P.971 While landing at RAAF Townsville damaged beyond repair. On October 10, 1973 stricken off charge. Now under the care of the FNQAM.

Later dumped in a bush area and then broken up

Aerolineas de Monte Alban in1986 was the last operator, before being wfu at Oaxaca in February 1987. The nice decorative emblem behind the cockpit windows that distinguished this Company was the head of a high-priest of the Zapotec culture. The Company had a very brief career, was not able to pay debt and the aircraft was impounded by the airport authorities.

US Navy Norfolk, Build as a C-47A-10-DL with c/n: 9234 and converted to R4D-8 which was renamed as C-117D with new c/n: 43399.

Delivered to the USAAF as 43-16009 in 1944, to N4766C in 1953, later N950 and N5000C. To Aero Service as N5000E in 1966 then to Starflite Corp in 1989. To ZS-LVR in 1990 serving with Air Africa operating mainly cargo flights between South Africa and Malawi. To Indigo Aviation as 5H-LVR in 2010. Withdrawn from at Dar-Es-Salaam in 2010. Operated by Aerial Survey Botswana at this date, this Dakota has an interesting past story: Serving with the RAF as KP279 1945 to 1952, then BEA as G-ANMV before going to TASSA as EC-ATM 1962, Autair with G-ANMV restored 1965. To Bechuanaland National Airways as VQ-ZEA 1965 (re-reg'd A2-ZEA). To South Africa as ZS-FKI with Protea Airways November 1969, ZS-NPI with National Process Air and ZS-ASN with Aircraft Operating Company in 1980.
