AirHistory.net has been free to use and free of advertising since it went public in 2018, and we are committed to keeping it that way. However, being free to use doesn’t mean it’s cheap to run — quite the contrary. Maintaining a large and growing archive like this comes at a cost.

Why do we need your support?

With by now over 800,000 photos and a large number of daily users, the demands on servers, storage, data traffic, backups and security have grown significantly. Hosting a site of this scale, while keeping it secure, requires robust and professional infrastructure — and that is expensive. From when the site was first conceived in 2015 through to 2024, all costs were covered privately by the site’s founder. But as AirHistory.net continues to grow — and with it, the costs — private funding is no longer sustainable. The AirHistory team, all unpaid volunteers, is determined to keep the site free of advertising and outside influence. But to do that, we now need your help.

AirHistory is now a registered non-profit foundation in the Netherlands, solely dedicated to preserving and sharing aviation history through the AirHistory.net website, with no commercial interests. Our registered name is "Stichting AirHistory Aviation Archive".

If you value what we do — preserving aviation history, mainly through our uploaders' photo collections, made fully searchable and freely accessible to everyone, free of advertising — please consider supporting us with a donation.

The form

You can donate using the form on this page. On the first screen you can choose the frequency, currency and amount that suits you, or enter your own amount if the suggested values don’t work for you.
On this page there is also a slider to tip WhyDonate Services. WhyDonate manages our donation campaign — they promote the campaign, provide the donation form on this page, ensure secure payments via PayPal, credit card and many other payment methods, and handle all the financial bookkeeping for the donations we receive. They do all of this at no cost to us, relying entirely on tips from donors. Tipping WhyDonate is entirely optional. You can choose the amount by adjusting the slider — anywhere from 0% to 30%.

On the next screen, you’ll be asked to enter your details and, if you wish, a message to us. You can also choose to donate anonymously — this only means we at AirHistory won’t see your name. Whether you donate anonymously or not, we never publish any donor details on the website or elsewhere, fully respecting your privacy.

You’ll then proceed to the secure payment page, where you can choose from several payment methods available in your country. For one-time donations, options usually include credit cards, local payment systems, and direct bank payments. For recurring donations (monthly or annually), the available methods may be more limited — often only PayPal and credit cards.

If you'd like to donate via PayPal, simply select it on the third page of the form — the secure payment page. You'll then be redirected to PayPal as usual to complete your donation. Please note that credit card donations typically incur lower processing fees than PayPal, which means a greater portion of your donation will reach us.
