In 1973 the USNavy still used the C-117D. The unit is uncertain, but it's homebase is clear: Rota NAS.

Rebuilt as R4D-8 50821 from c/n 26876 in 1952. Redesignated as a C-117D in 1962. To the National Museum of Naval Aviation at Pensacola by 1983.

Static display at airshow. At the time the slide was taken 50821 was assigned to Naval Weapons Center NAS China Lake. The aircraft later went on display at the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, FL.

Built as R4D-6, converted to R4D-8 and redesignated C-117D in 1962. This aircraft is preserved in the USA.

Displayed in the open storage area at the NMNA wearing the titles of NAS Rota, Spain.

The US Navy was on a very short list of customers for the "Super DC-3"

C-117D of Naval Air Facility Mildenhall at its home base. The USN C-117D's were unique in having had three c/ns - this one was originally R4D-6 15431/26876 but was given 43322 on rebuild to C-117D in 1951. 50821 is now preserved at Pensacola. Sister ship 17171 is in the background.
