A wonderful scene at Blackbushe in the late 1950s. The operation of the aircraft by Blue Air is confirmed by the steps. Blue air was formerly known as Independent Air Travel who changed their name early in 1959, largely due to the adverse publicity generated following the crash of G-AIJE, one of the companies Vickers Vikings, at Southall on 2nd September 1958. G-APID, which had been acquired by Independent from California Eastern Airlines in November 1957, ended its days as a snack bar in Seville and was scrapped following storm damage in 1978 (photographer Cyril Smith)

When Blackbushe closed at the end of May 1960 Eagle Airways moved their operations to London Airport (later Heathrow). 1960 also saw the airline taken over by the Cunard Steamship Line to become Cunard Eagle Airways. One of three DC6s operated by Eagle Airways, G-APSA was acquired from Maritime Central Airways in Canada in 1959. It continued to fly with Cunard Eagle before being sold to Saudi Arabian Airlines in February 1964.
