This former BOAC VC10 (G-ARVG) started airline service in June 1964 after six months of crew training as the type was introduced. After BOAC merged with British European Airways to form British Airways, this aircraft was leased, then sold to Gulf Air (A4O-VG) in June 1974. Retired in 1977, it was among nine airline VC 10s the RAF bought in 1978 for tanker conversion. ZA141 was the first tanker to fly in June 1982 and is pictured after recent painting in the new Hemp color scheme - what a sight and what a sound. Retired in 1999, it was scrapped at St. Athan in 2001.

Post war C-54 45-0535 was retired to AMARC in 1971 after US Air Force service. Declared surplus, the aircraft was bought by Dross Metals and registered N3303F in 1975. It returned to flying in 1976 with Aero Union after fire bomber conversion. Registered to Conifair Aviation as C-GBNV in 1981, it was used mainly for spraying Quebec forests to control damage from Spruce budworms. Buffalo Airways bought the aircraft in 1996 and it remains current (at the time of uploading), but has not flown for some time.

Delivered new in 1958 and on 5 November 1970 it was wrecked when the nose-wheel collapsed landing at Corfu (LGKR). We only got to see the Olympic Comets on scheduled services, so this was a nice treat thanks to a charter flight carrying Scouts home from the 11th World Jamboree at Marathon, Greece.

Delivered new in early 1958 and named St. Columban. Withdrawn from use at Dublin (EIDW) in 1969 and scrapped in 1972. A nice foggy London day with the usual Alitalia Caravelle flight replaced by a DC-7 behind. Some of the older prop-liners didn't have ILS so it was interesting to listen to the VHF radio patter of GCA (Ground Controlled Approach) being conducted in low visibility.
