Like the C-46 and C-7, it is not possible to get a decent photo of the Museum of Aviation's C-47 which now crammed indoors in the invasion marks of 81st TCS/436th TCG 9th AF, Membury, UK. It is in fact US Navy R4D-6 BuNo 50811 which was previously displayed outdoors at Pensacola (my 1979 photo here)

The USAAF immediately passed C-47B 43-49442 to the US Navy in 1944 where it served as an R4D-6/C-47J till retired to the Pensacola museum. Now displayed in 1944 invasion colours at Warner Robins with original serial as per my December 2024 photo

This plane was originally built as a C-47B and delivered to the USAAF as 43-48859 and later served with the Armée de l'air and South Vietnamese AF as 348859. A period of storage at MASDC followed from 1968 until 1992 but in February 1998 it was ferried to Oshkosh (KOSH) as N40386 for the turboprop conversion. After a short lease to the USAF, the registration N40386 was cancelled and the plane became C-GEAJ in August 2007. It has since survived two crashes, one in Antartica and a collision with a snowplough in Ontario, and is still going strong.

Two of TAA's 'new' DC-3 freighters parked at Essendon on a Sunday afternoon. VH-TAE was built to a USAAF order as 42-92274 but delivered to the RAAF as A65-29. Sold to TAA and registered on 27 September 1946. Re-registered and renamed VH-SBL 'Mt Hagen' in 1960 for TAA's New Guinea 'Sunbird' services. Sold to Air Niugini in 1973 as P2-SBL. Returned to the Australian Register as VH-SBL in 1981 and still current. VH-AEZ, in the background, served with the USAAF as 42-23949 until sold to TAA and registered in Australia on 2 May 1945, named 'Currie'. Became VH-EWD with East-West Airlines in 1955.

Former Perimeter Aviation DC-3 retired circa 1987 that was donated to the Western Canada Aviation Museum. It is pictured outside the old location of the museum before moving across the airport when the building was torn down. The museum (re-named Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada ) eventually re-located to a new building by the new main airport terminal.

Delivered to the USAAF as 42-92597 then transferred to the RAF as KG385 and the SAAF as 6828 in 1944. Converted to a C-47TP in 1999. Fitted out as an Electronic Warfare platform serving with the SAAF's Electronic Warfare Centre whose badge is on the tail, flown by 35 Sqd crews. Delivered to the USAAF September 1945, to the RAF as FL563 December 1943 and the SAAF October 1945 serving at AFB Ysterplaat with the station flight and 25 Sqd for a long time as the Dazzle Dak target tug. Delivered to the USAAF as 42-68819. Post-war conversion to DC-3A and to Svenska Kyrkans Missionsstyrelse as SE-APG Feb 1946 for missionary flights, later Nordiskt Missionsflyg. To AB Aerotransport July 19848, SAS from July 1949. To SNCSAO as F-BEIS January 1951, to French Air Force as 68819, to Brabier as F-BRGI November 1972, to Yugoslav Air Force as 71237, to YU-ABW November 1979. Then it gets interesting. Sold to Atlas Aircraft in Miami, FL as N8071Z and stored at Riem. In March 1981 she was registered 9Q-CYI and flown to South Africa bypassing the UN embargo on the country and given the SAAF serial 6875. This is the second 6875, the first was written off in 1964. Operating joy flights during the 40 Year Liberation Day Memorial Air Display

Painted to represent an AC-47 'Spooky', in actuality the 37th Troop Carrier Squadron flew this Skytrain in WWII and airdropped 82nd Airborne Division soldiers during the parachute assaults of the Normandy invasion and also in Operation Market Garden. It served in another famous campaign post-war when it was part of the Berlin Airlift. Then taken on charge by the Turk Hava Kuvvetleri, it returned to the US in 1954 and joined the Indiana ANG, later transferred to the Ohio ANG. By 1979 it was on display here at Hurlburt in camouflage, as per my photo here for comparison
