The SAAF's only Viscount was operated by 21 Sqd. It is here seen at AFB Swartkop in 1970. It carried the civilian registration ZS-LPR from August 1984. Sold to Field Aviation in November 1991 who sold it on to Air Charter Service as 9Q-CWL the following month. Leased to Filair from January 1992 to January 1996 when sold to Bazair. Written off near Irumu, DRC 6 June 1997 following an inflight fire. Photographer unknown

The SAAF ordered six English Electric Canberra B(I) 12s and three T 4s in 1962. Delivered to 12 Sqd during 1963 and 1964, they were extensively used in as tactical bombers and high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft. 459 was delivered to the RAF as WJ617 20 January 1954, to the SAAF 16 April 1964. One B(I) 12 was shot down over Angola, five were sold to Peru along with one T 4. One T 4 went to the SAAF Museum whereas 459 became a gate guardian at AFB Waterkloof. Photographer unknown

One of eight Transalls stored at Waterkloof following their withdrawal from service in 1993. They remained in storage until sold for spares in 2008 and were scrapped in 2009. The only SAAF Transall to survive is 337 which re-located to the SAAF museum at Swartkop in 1994.

Delivered to the USAAF as 42-68819. Post-war conversion to DC-3A and to Svenska Kyrkans Missionsstyrelse as SE-APG Feb 1946 for missionary flights, later Nordiskt Missionsflyg. To AB Aerotransport July 19848, SAS from July 1949. To SNCSAO as F-BEIS January 1951, to French Air Force as 68819, to Brabier as F-BRGI November 1972, to Yugoslav Air Force as 71237, to YU-ABW November 1979. Then it gets interesting. Sold to Atlas Aircraft in Miami, FL as N8071Z and stored at Riem. In March 1981 she was registered 9Q-CYI and flown to South Africa bypassing the UN embargo on the country and given the SAAF serial 6875. This is the second 6875, the first was written off in 1964. In November 1983 40 Sqd SAAF celebrated a 40 year reunion with a flypast of three types that had served the squadron well: The Spitfire from WW2 and the early post-war years, the Harvard from its Active Citizen Force years from 1953 to 1982 when the squadron started operating the Impalas. 40 Sqd was disbanded on 29 April 1983.
