Like the C-46 and C-7, it is not possible to get a decent photo of the Museum of Aviation's C-47 which now crammed indoors in the invasion marks of 81st TCS/436th TCG 9th AF, Membury, UK. It is in fact US Navy R4D-6 BuNo 50811 which was previously displayed outdoors at Pensacola (my 1979 photo here)

The USAAF immediately passed C-47B 43-49442 to the US Navy in 1944 where it served as an R4D-6/C-47J till retired to the Pensacola museum. Now displayed in 1944 invasion colours at Warner Robins with original serial as per my December 2024 photo

Ordered by the USAAF as C-47B 43-49442 but delivered to the US Navy as R4D-6 50811 in 1944. Redesignated as a C-47J in 1962. Preserved at Pensacola by 1979. Moved to the Museum of Aviation, Warner-Robins AFB in 1984 and marked as 43-49442. Painted in Chinese Nationalist Air Force Colours as 42. Later painted back into USAAF colours.

A/C retired from active service in 1973, last stationed at NAS China Lake. Built under USAAF contract as C-47B 43-49442, but delivered new to USN as R4D-6 Bureau Number 50811 in November 1944. In 1984 this a/c was transferred to the Museum of Aviation at Warner Robbins AFB, where it is currently on display.

Built as C-47B 43-49442 but delivered direct to the US Navy as R4D-6 50811 in 11.44. Later designated C-47J. Served many USN units until retired to Pensacola in 05.73. Loaned to the Robins Museum and painted as "Saylor's Trailer" in 9th AF scheme with "serial" '4349442'.
