The pristine condition of the C-46 would indicate this is at Buffalo where it was built for the Republic of China air force under lend-lease (USAAF 44-78627). Suffered a minor accident at Dakar on delivery. Repaired, it flew on to Cairo where it was damaged beyond repair on September 10, 1945. Photo by: Hans Groenhoff / Smithsonian Institution

Officialy registered as N37737 for D&D Aero the only identification found on this aircraft was the faded registration HB-ITD. What I personally found interesting, as a former employee of Martinair, that this DC-3 ones flew for Martin's Air Charter as PH-MAA.

Like many surviving DC-3s N200MX had a long career, built in 1941 for Penn Central Airlines the aircraft saw brief military service between 1942 and 1943 before being returned to Penn Central. Up until the time this picture was taken the DC-3 had mostly flown within the USA for various operators. Between 1968 and 1984 though, the aircraft flew for a company from Ecuador as HC-AOP, the colour scheme (?) and name is also from this time. Tariri, Chief was later added, was a leader of the Indian Shapras Tribe during the 1950s and 1960s who lived in the border area of Peru and Ecuador

It has carried six other registrations between the photo and today - VH-EBY, VH-SBG, P2-SBG, P2-ANP, N5590A and finally VH-BPL. Last registration cancelled in 1996. This former USAF Convair C-131B can be found at Dempsay Farm near Dodsons yard in Rantoul (KS). Although it is officially registered as N43941 to D&D Aero the civil registration is nowhere to be found but part of its former USAF serial (37801 / 53-7801) can be seen peeking through the paint on its tail.

When C-119s were first loaned to the French in Vietnam in 1953, US markings had reportedly been removed carefully, but that was clearly not the case during the Squaw II deployment in 1954. The second aircraft even still wears the 'Packet Rats' name of the 65th Troop Carrier Squadron. Another photo confirms that the first is tail number 9187 (full USAF serial 49-187). Note that the Flying Boxcars appear to operate without their clamshell doors. From 14 to 16 March 1954, two airborne batallions were parachuted into Dien Bien Phu. Photo by: Joe Scherschel / Life

French Flying Boxcars - sort of! The USAF loaned some C-119s to the French forces in Vietnam from May 1953. They were flown by mixed Civil Air Transport (CAT) and French crews. 51-2541 was allocated call sign F-OYXB. It returned to Clark AFB, Philippines in July 1953, but here it is back in Vietnam in March 1954 during the Battle of Dien Bien Phu when the C-119s flew very dangerous missions.
