This former RAF Britannia was sold to Young Air Cargo 10Feb76 (flown to Gosselies 17Jan76 as OO-YCC). Used as a spares source and scrapped 23Jun78. Tony Lloyd photo.

EX-RAF Britannias XL636 (left) & XL637 (right) awaiting civil conversion by Aviation Traders. XL636 had been registered Young Air Cargo as OO-YCE on 23 February 1976, it was WFU at Ostend in December 1977 and scrapped there in August 1978. XL637 went to Young Cargo as OO-YCH in August 1976. To 9Q-CKG in April 1979. Re-registered 9Q-CBT but WFU and broken at Goma.

Seen before it had received a fin-flash on the starboard side.

Had been registered as G-BDUR 31st March 1976 with Airline Engineering. To Afrek 2nd July 1976. To Aerocaribbean as CU-T121 August 1984. WFU end of 1988 at Havana, broken up there in November 1995.

In store, ex-RAF. To Airline Engineering as EI-BDC in April 1977. It operated various lease periods with Aer Turas and Cyprus Airways before being sold to Eurafric in January 1978. Moving to Redcoat Air Cargo as G-BRAC in June 1978, it sadly crashed after take-off from Boston-Logan on 16th February 1980 due to ice accumulation and windshear. Pre-flight weather briefing was judged inadequate.

XL639 was delivered to 99 Sqdn in October 1958, the unit becoming 99/511 Sqdn in 1961. Stored at 5 MU Kemble from October 1975, it was bought by Guiness Peat Aviation in early 1976 and on to Airline Engineering a year later after storage at Stansted. Registered EI-BDC it operated various lease periods with Aer Turas and Cyprus Airways before being sold to Eurafric in January 1978. Stored at Stansted. Delivered new to the Royal Air Force as a C Mk.1 registration XL635 named Bellatrix on 30 January 1960. WFU and stored at RAF St Athan in June 1975. Sold to Young Air Cargo on 05 September 1975 as OO-YCA. Later WFU and stored at Stansted and broken up.
