Qantas sold this aircraft in 1953. It crashed at Tingalpa, Queensland, on October 24, 1954. Two of the three people on board were killed. Ironically, the flight was to scatter the ashes of a deceased neighbour. The ship in the photo is the Tenyo Maru, sunk during World War II when the Japanese occupied Lae. It finally slipped under the surface during an earthquake in the 1970s. Photo from: Whites Aviation Collection/Alexander Turnbull Library
