This Beech 18 was built as a C-45 in 1944 and delivered to the USAAF as 44-47696. It flew for the USAAF / USAF until the end of the '50s when it was sold and the markings N7381C were applied. It changed hands several times and at the time this picture was taken a Mr Harold Ewing had honour of owning the aircraft. The Beech had recieved its original markings the year before (in 2004) and was and stil is a regular guest at various air shows throughout the USA.

With both the museum and the airport closed, the future of this lovely classic Convair looks to be slowly fading and rusting away at the airport.

B-24s were used to haul fuel to Kunming in September 1944. On this date, 6 September 1944, twenty-four B-24s flew in about 34,000 US gallons according to the Pacific Wrecks website. That means a cargo of about 8300 lb per aircraft, which is consistent with the maximum bombload of a fully equipped B-24J. Photo from: National Archives at College Park, Maryland

Seen at its Campbell River Airport base. Western Straits Air was a trading name of Gynn Bay Logging Ltd, to whom the aircraft was registered. In September 1995 the aircraft was returning from Triumph Bay on a VFR flight with a logging party of nine on board.Weather at the Airport was poor, with a low overcast, light rain and fog. While attempting an approach, the aircraft flew straight and level into a densely wooded hill in heavy fog, killing the pilot and seven passengers. The aircraft was destroyed. The company did not survive this tragic event and its remaining aircraft were soon sold.

Put out to grass for a time in the storage corner at Selkirk Airport. Rebuilt in 2004 and repainted as CF-LZO in a dark colour scheme, based at Strathmore, Alberta. A flyby in wheeled configuration was carried out at the 2009 Red Lake Norseman Festival. Unfortunately, its flight had to be terminated at Red Lake Airport, Ontario. Effectively entered open storage there, where it still sat, for sale, as late as 2021.
