A72-113 was retained in Australia for training. It was struck off charge in December 1952.

"Joe" in the packed hangar at Fantasy of Flight. This B-24J with s/n 44-44272 was built at Ft. Worth, TX with an Emerson A-15 nose turret. She was ferried to India by No. 6 Ferry Unit, RAF Transport Command, serving as KH601. RAF B-24s were dumped at Chakeri at the end of the war. HE771 was refurbished by HAL and flown by No. 6 Sqn "Dragons" in the MR role till retired in Dec 1968. The IAF was the last and longest user of the B-24 from 1948-68, the type also equipping No. 5 and 16 Sqn. Named after Lt Joseph P. Kennedy Jr, the aircraft featured in the movie Young Joe, The Forgotten Kennedy.

First delivered to the USAAF as 44-44175 in September 1944, this B-24 was passed straight on to the RAF as Liberator GR.VI KH304 that November. The British abandoned many Liberators in India at the end of the war, India putting several back into service after independence and using them until the late 1960s. After storage at Chakeri this aircraft was assigned the serial HE877 by the Indian AF in 1948. In March 1969 it was ferried from Poona to Tucson via the UK. Now displayed with Indian markings on the right side, with the left in the 1944 colours of the 446th BG, Bungay, Suffolk, England.

It is seen being prepared for some painting during its stay at Duxford en-route from India to the USA which took a couple of years. Displayed at the Fantasy of Flight in Florida.

Assigned serial 44-44175 as a B-24J but delivered to the RAF as a Liberator GR.VI KH304. SOC on 11 Apr 1946 and transferred to the Indian Air Force as HE877. On return to the USA allocated registration N7866 and delivered to the museum at Pima for display' The opposite side the aircraft was painted in USAAF colours with its original serial 444175.

B-24s were used to haul fuel to Kunming in September 1944. On this date, 6 September 1944, twenty-four B-24s flew in about 34,000 US gallons according to the Pacific Wrecks website. That means a cargo of about 8300 lb per aircraft, which is consistent with the maximum bombload of a fully equipped B-24J. Photo from: National Archives at College Park, Maryland

Ex USAAF 44-44052

Table Stuff taxis out for the 428th Bomb Group's 200th mission. The target was Berlin. 44-40285 was damaged on the ground by debris when B-24J 44-40118 exploded after being accidentally hit by gunfire from B-24D 42-50565.
