Developed from the earlier Convair 116 ConvAirCar, conceived by Ted Hall, the Convair 118 was basically a car body supplied by Crosley with a detachable wing, Lycoming O-435 aero engine and tail unit. The prototype NX90850 first flew on 15 November 1947, but crashed three days later. It was rebuilt with a new car body, which is likely seen here as it was lighter in colour. Convair dropped plans to build 160,000 copies of this flying car. Photo from: San Diego Air & Space Museum

The Sea Fury originated as the Fury and aircraft built for Iraq and Pakistan reverted to that name. Iraq's order included five two-seaters, designated as Fury Trainers. These preceded the Sea Fury T.20, lacking the latter's 'perspex tunnel' interlinking the two cockpits, and the 'Fury Mk.20' designation given by Scramble seems off. Unfortunately for the Iraqis, the arrangement with separate canopies was 'prone to collapse at high speeds'.

This was the second Seaford. After a brief loan to BOAC it returned to the RAF as a transport. However NJ201 was rejected by the Transport Command. About 1949 Short installed a streamlined nose and Solent style wing floats. It was eventually sold to Aquila Airways in 1953 as a Solent III (G-ANAJ) although it was only a partial conversion compared with Seafords converted for BOAC.
