Descriptions of the Model 118 ConvAirCar say that it had a Crosley car engine, but it seems likely that the whole car body was supplied by Crosley, although it was not a standard model. Following a flying accident on 18 November 1947, a replacement car in a lighter colour was used. Photo from: Convair

Developed from the earlier Convair 116 ConvAirCar, conceived by Ted Hall, the Convair 118 was basically a car body supplied by Crosley with a detachable wing, Lycoming O-435 aero engine and tail unit. The prototype NX90850 first flew on 15 November 1947, but crashed three days later. It was rebuilt with a new car body, which is likely seen here as it was lighter in colour. Convair dropped plans to build 160,000 copies of this flying car. Photo from: San Diego Air & Space Museum
