The North Star was a Canadian development of the Douglas C-54/DC-4, with some features of the DC-6. This airframe was manufactured in 1948 by Canadair Limited in Montreal, Quebec and was delivered to the RCAF in March of that year. It spent its entire career with No. 426 Squadron. Former Royal Canadian Air Force North Star 17502 was struck off strength in 1966 and sold to Trans Florida Aviation. Registered CF-UXA to Canadian subsidiary Cavalier Aviation, the aircraft was one of two North Stars (CF-UXB the other) operated by Air Caicos on freight services from Florida to the Turks and Caicos Islands. Later with Air Turks, it flew the last North Star commercial flight when time ran out on the engines June 19, 1975 and the aircraft was scrapped in Sarasota, FL .
