A new Dakota for the database! C-47A 42-24049 was moved 650m to the West from the Roslagen Hotel in Norrtälje to a new location in the same city at a shopping mall at the E18/77 intersection. It is preserved in SAS colours. It was previously used as a restaurant and went to Sweden for spares recovery with Skandinaviska Aero AV on 23 August 1946.

This C-47 was originally delivered to the USAAF as 41-18401 in 1942. It then went on to fly in France and Israel before becoming N155JM in 1999 and N150D in 2001. It is pictured landing on rw27 after a solo display and a very nice formation flight with three Beech 18s,

A C-47B delivered as 43-49765 to the US Army Air Force in January 1945 and based in Manila, Philippines with the 5th Air Force. Flying as RP-C 94 with Philippine Airlines after the war, the airliner was acquired by Quebecair in 1955 and registered CF-QBC.

This Skytrain on display is actually 43-49507, the last C-47 in routine USAF use. Constructed as a C-47B-15-DK by Douglas at Oklahoma City, it was taken on by the USAAF as 43-49507 in November 1944 and postwar served with several different support units in Florida, Texas, Nebraska and Louisiana, having undergone modification to C-47D around 1947. It was flown to the museum in 1975 having accumulated 20,821 hours and in 1987 was painted in the marks of the 438th Troop Carrier Group, changed after 2010 to the current scheme representing a C-47A of the 439th TCG used to recover gliders on D-Day

It was nice to see this airframe again, 36 years (almost to the day) after I first saw it. It looks quite different now, and time hasn't been very kind to it. In between, this Super DC-3 spent about 15 years with the Colombian AF as FAC1632, from early 1990 until early 2005, when it was acquired by Tom Graziano and parked here at Benson a few months later. The aircraft was sold to another owner in May 2018, but all in all it appears that it has not flown at all since arriving at Benson almost 20 years ago. The faded "Super DC-3" and "Douglas" titles are still visible, but its former red Douglas-style trim has now completely faded away.
