This C-47 (ex N1350M) was placed on display at the then US Air Force base at Frankfurt-Rhein Main airport in March 1986, on loan from the USAF Museum. It was soon painted in these markings, showing its original identity (delivered as such in Oct 1944).
Built for USAAF as 44-77272. Retired to Davis Monthan 04.60. To T3-40 Spanish AF 02.62 until wfu 11.77. G-BFPW 04.78 to 04.80 then to N3753N, ending with Basler in 1991 but serious corrosion was found and stripped for spares.
Seen passing over the green dot on the main runway, which is one of several coloured dots used to add the landing of the very different types of aircraft that attend AirVenture every year from Tiger Moth's to Galaxy's and everything in between, i.e. 'land on the green dot' etc. Owned by the Yankee Air Force.
Restoration of former Lee County Mosquito Control District is nearing completion. The aircraft will participate in the June 2019 event in Europe commemorating the 75th anniversary of the D-Day invasion.
