Participating in the 1999 Air Show at CFB Comox. Built in 1943 for the USAAF as a Cessna UC-78B Bobcat, 43-32309. Carrying the WWII markings of a multi-engined trainer used in the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan by the RCAF, where the type was known as the Cessna Crane. The name "Big Bamboo", displayed on the engine nacelle is a reference to a wartime nickname for Bobcats and Cranes in their training role. Made mostly of wood with metal in short supply, they were referred to as "The Bamboo Bomber". Re-registered to an owner in Fairbanks, Alaska as N184EN in 2000.

An ill-fated aircraft: G-APEE crashed at Heathrow in fog on 27 October 1965, with the loss of all 36 people on board. The aircraft was on its third approach to land and crashed on runway 28R after the pilots became disorientated during an attempted go-around. The two other Vanguards in shot are most likely series 953s, as they have a larger BEA "red square" on the fin, this having become the standard style, while near the hangars, as well as an unidentified DC-8, two British Eagle DC-6As can be seen. The fifth L-14. Happy with the L-10, Northwest Airlines was the launch customer for the L-14, which it called the Sky Zephyr. Four Sky Zephyrs crashed, however, between January 1938 and January 1939, and the type was phased out in the summer of 1939. Normally Northwest didn't fly farther east than Chicago back then, but here NC17386 is seen in Boston for reasons unknown. NC17386 to TACA of Honduras as XH-TEG. To PP-AVA of Aerovias Brasil. Crashed on 13 February 1943. Photo by: Leslie Jones / Boston Public Library
