When it had been announced that the Patrouille de France would reform on Alphajets, Dassault was only happy to oblige the French to paint one of its prototypes in PdF colours. But which prototype is it? Many sources quote 04. But this aircraft was written off three years earlier. 03 was at Oberpfafenhofen. 01 was undergoing static testing. So that leaves 02 as the possible candidate.
Appropriate tail number for this 36TFW aircraft with a multi-coloured fintip marking the colours of the three squadrons then constituting the 36th TFW. The colours also happen to be the same as the German flag. The 36th home base was in Bitburg, Germany. Also note the wing badge on the intake.
Although not worn the first prototype of the Helicop-Jet had registration F-WZAI allotted. It was powered with a Djinn engine and proved well underpowered. The second prototype received the Astazou engine of the Alouette helicopter.
