A very interesting photo which must have been taken during the transatlantic return flight undertaken by six No 54 Sqn Vampires in the summer of 1948. VT873, which was flown by Warrant Officer Skinner, is framed by two PB4Y-1 Liberators. We think the most likely location is Meeks Field (Keflavik) in Iceland. The six jets all made it back to Britain but VT873 dived into the ground at Frensham, Surrey on 21 December. Photo by: John Kinsall / Tennessee State Library and Archives
