One of the 2 D.H. 6 prototypes either A5175 or A5176 showing the traditional de Havilland rudder, however production machines were fitted with a more angular rudder. The D.H 6 was used as a training aircraft and first flew in late 1916 with Geoffrey de Havilland at the controls. The two B & W biplanes were the first aircraft built during 1916 by Bill Boeing's new company at their hangar and slipway on Seattle's Lake Union. They were tested by the U.S. Navy but sold in 1918 to New Zealand as trainers and mailplanes. A replica was built in 1966. Photo obtained from Boeing.

DH-2 single-seat pusher fighter built by the Aircraft Manufacturing Company for the Royal Flying Corps at Hendon in early 1916. The last figure '3' of the serial is not visible because film of the day could not distinguish between black numeral and red fin strip. Obtained from De Havilland over 50 years ago.
