The original aircraft operated at Southend by the Rochford Hundred Flying Group, to whom it was delivered 7 August 1964. It was replaced by Auster J/5B Autocar G-AMFP in June 1969.

On lease to Lesotho Airways from Comair. ZS-FRM first flew in 1946 and was built with uncompleted C-117 parts. She joined Det Danske Luftfartsselskab as OY-DCU and was named Ulf Viking, a name she continued to carry when DDL became a constituent member of SAS. She went to Linjeflyg as SE-CFU and later Austrian as OE-LBN. Moving to South Africa, she joined Comair's fleet in 1968. She ended her life in Africa serving in Zimbabwe as Z-WRU and later Kenya as 5Y-BIL. In the late 1990s she was damaged in Nairobi and written off. Photographer unknown

slide scan from the NK collection. - Finnair operated nine Convair 440s between 1953 and 1980; six came new from Convair's San Diego factory, one was acquired second-hand from Alitalia, and two were transferred from Karair. OH-LRF was built in 1957 and made a winter visit to Munich-Riem in old Finnair colours. Eventually, the airframe was registered as CP-2256 and lost during an emergency landing in Bolivia in September 1993.

VH-PNA was fitted with JATO and at one stage undercarriage doors. The latter were soon removed because of maintenance problems but the JATO pack remained. It is not recorded if it was used outside testing in 1961.

A84-501 was trucked to Portsea in November 1966 to become a play object for the children at the holiday camp. Exposed to sea spray, the corroding aircraft was later scrapped.

VH-BYJ was withdrawn from use in 1979.
