The M-200 civil tiltrotor transport, the last aircraft designed by Curtiss-Wright, was just about to be cancelled when the USAF agreed to make it the X-19. The first hovering flight only lasted a few seconds on 20 November 1963. This machine was tested at Caldwell until 1965. It crashed at the National Aviation Facilities Experimental Center (NAFEC), Atlantic City on 25 August 1965 with just four hours on the clock. A second airframe never flew.
