Taken ca 1965, this Chileka scene is typical for the mid-1960s with the EAAC Comet freshly painted in the new colour scheme introduced in 1965. In the background is a Central African Airways Viscount with Air Malawi stairs in front. CAA had become an operating company for Air Malawi, Air Rhodesia, and Zambia Airways with each airline's titles applied depending on the flight.

The Comet tragedy unfolding. The first of three Comet 1As for UAT, F-BGSA made the first proving flight from Paris to Dakar on 27 December 1952. In the background is CF-CUM or CUN for Canadian Pacific. CF-CUM was cancelled after CUN crashed at Karachi during a demonstration tour on 3 March 1953. UAT's F-BSSC was also lost before BOAC's Comet crashes caused BGSA and BGSB to be grounded in April 1954. They were eventually scrapped in 1961. Photo from: Nationaal Archief (Netherlands)
