The Thomas Morse Scout became the standard single-seat fighter trainer used by the U.S. Air Service during World War I. This example was built with the 100 hp Gnome rotary engine and was acquired in 1997 from the Crawford Museum in Cleveland, Ohio. At some point the wings were rebuilt for display only and as the intention is to return it to airworthy condition they will have to be rebuilt. Less than 500 were built and very few still exist

This modern sculpture by Huang Yong Ping is the Bat Project IV from 2004 relating to a major diplomatic incident in 2001 when a US Navy EP-3 on a spy mission collided with a Chinese fighter in Chinese airspace. The Orion nose seen here (ex US Navy) is festooned with stuffed bats hanging inside the cockpit of a real aircraft, a reference to the bat logo on the fin of the offending aircraft. The rear 'fuselage' made from bamboo and red white and blue fabric, allusions to China and the USA, contains a poignant exhibition of the history of the sculpture

This modern sculpture by Huang Yong Ping is the Bat Project IV from 2004 relating to a major diplomatic incident when a US Navy EP-3 on a spying mission collided with a Chinese fighter in Chinese airspace. Here stuffed bats hang from the cockpit of a real aircraft, an allusion to the bat logo on the fin of the offending aircraft. Exhibited for a short time, the first time in Europe in the Nottingham Contemporary gallery, it is strange yet enthralling

No serial no is known for this, believed to have been a Merlin powered MkIIX, built 1941 or 1942. By 1966 it was known to have been in use as an instructional exhibit at the College of Aeronautics at Cranfield and was donated to the Museum in 1966

After a holiday with friends in Japan, I took an overnight ferry from Shimonoseki to China, and was stunned to see this as the ship put into Qingdao. Only a few SH-5s appear to have been built for the People's Navy.

I have never properly identified this aircraft. The name could also be Carrie.
