Taxiing for a Runway 31 departure from Prestwick. Arriving in the UK, in new military markings, for the filming of "Memphis Belle". Built at Seattle, WA as 42-29782 for the USAAF. In 1945 became a war memorial in the City of Stuttgart, Arkansas. Reactivated as N6015V in 1953. Converted as aerial sprayer N17W in 1954. Further converted to a fire bomber in 1960. Used in the movies "1000 Plane Raid" in 1968 and "Tora! Tora! Tora!" in 1969. Acquired by the Museum of Flight Foundation, Seattle, WA in 1990 and authentically restored.

Delivered to the USAAF as B-17F 42-3374 in 1943. Redesignated as an RB-17F in 1944. To the MGM film studio in 1945 and stored there dismantled. To the Planes of Fame Air Museum, Chino, CA in 1970 then to the Beale AFB Museum in 1981 and restored. Moved to Offutt AFB, NE in 1989 and preserved at the gate marked as 230230.

The famed B-17F "Memphis Belle" became the first heavy bomber to return to the US after flying 25 missions over Europe in WWII. It had been on loan from the Air Force to the city of Memphis and was relocated to the museum in 2005. After years of meticulous restoration, it was placed on public display in the World War II Gallery in May 2018

This Fortress did not see operational wartime service, but in July 1950 was fitted with special drone control equipment at Olmsted AFB, PA to become a DB-17G. Operated with the 3200 Proof Test Wing from Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands on nuclear tests in 1951 and transferred to Patrick AFB, FL in 1955 where additional drone equipment was fitted, bringing it to DB-17P standard. Flown by the Missile Test Center, it was one of the last military B-17s active. Flown to Bunker Hill AFB in July 1961 and displayed at the Grissom Air Museum in olive drab, named "Miss Liberty Belle". To Robins 2015

Built for the USAAF as 43-38635 in 1944. To civil registry as N3702G in 1959 and converted to a fire bomber in 1960. To the Castle Air Museum in 1979.

Former USAF 44-83525. Stored at Davis-Monthan AFB, AZ in 1959. Last B-17 stored there. To Tallmantz Aviation as N83525 in 1958 then to The Flying Tiger Air Museum, Paris TX in 1972 and the Weeks Air Museum in 1983. Badly damaged by Hurricane Andrew in 1992. Moved to Kissimmee, FL in 1993 for restoration then to Polk City, FL in 1999 and stored.

Early basic bare metal livery

Inside Planes of Fame Air Museum's B-17G under restoration. This aircraft was delivered as 44-83684 on 7 May 1945, too late to see action in WW2. It went into storage in Texas and was converted to a DB-17G drone director aircraft to control radio-operated QB-17 target aircraft. In this role it participated in the 1951 Op Greenhouse nuclear tests and flew the last operational mission for the USAF on 6 Aug 1959. The staggered waist gun positions can be seen with the starboard gun moved forward by three fuselage frames. The seated Plexiglas windows afforded more comfort at combat altitude.

Taxying in after one of its earliest air display performances. In its original configuration and with former French registration letters still visible on starboard upper wing. Re-registered as G-BEDF in 1976 and still active in 2025 as one of the most famous UK warbirds.

The aircraft has since been acquired by the Collings Foundation and was last reported, March 2023, dismantled in one of the American Aero Services hangars at New Smyrna Beach, FL. (Credit: Ralph M. Pettersen).

Delivered to the USAAF as 44-8846 in 1945. To the Institut Geographique National as F-BGSP in 1954 and used for survey work. Reconfigured as a warbird and reregistered as F-AZDX in 1985. Retired from flying as the crew had become too old to fly it and preserved at La Ferte Alais in 2010
