The Liberty XL-2 was a new design of two seat touring aircraft, built from composite materials and powered by the 'old faithful' Continental engine. One example was displayed in the exhibition halls at the Dubai Airshow. The cockpit appears very neat and well laid out.
This is aircraft is on the edge of a small airfield with a long runway at the side of the sea. There was no evidence of any acitivity at the airfield. The aircraft is parked at the side of a major road and is used as an advertising hoarding for the local Palma Beach Hotel. The engine covers are from aircraft 3D-RTA . The aircraft was previously CCCP-86715, RA-86715, EL-RDT and 3D-RTT
Despite the fact that Sharjah is a very busy, largely cargo airport there is very little hangarage though the superb climate means that even major servicing can be carried out in the open as shown here. This aircraft was destroyed on June 27th, 2008 when it crashed near Malakal en route from Khartoum to Juba. Seven of the eight on board were killed.
