VH-UTJ suffered no less than four incidents that resulted in the port undercarriage collapsing It had another where the port gear was bent and two ground fires, the last of which was on August 9, 1955 at Tennant Creek from which it did not recover. It is believed the photo shows the October 1945 Cloncurry accident. The tail is marked with a blue and white fin flash like that on military aircraft in the Pacific Theatre in WW2.

A81-2 was lost when its port wing separated near Mallala on February 25, 1953. The aircraft was on an IFR training flight. The investigation concluded A81-2 had been overstressed during an earlier training flight that day. On that flight the navigator had blacked out due to the G being pulled.

Looking south. Known as Mascot airport at the time of this John Harrison photo. After WW2, Cooks River was diverted to enter Botany Bay at the far left of photo and channel filled. Three existing runways replaced by 07/25 and 16/34. In 1960s, 70s and 90s, large areas of the bay were filled to first lengthen 16/34 and then add third runway. Hangar marked Mascot and those immediately behind are site of today's Terminal 3. Third row of hangars now site of Terminal 2. Qantas base occupies much of the foreground and the hangars at left.

TAA operated a network of internal services inside Tasmania. The airline bought four Queen Airs for these routes and also for use in Queensland. The economics of a trunk airline operating light aircraft saw TAA and competitor Ansett abandon such routes in favour of third-level airlines formed by air charter operators. -TGA was sold to the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
