At the time of the photo, VH-BMD was owned by Amphibious Airways of Papua New Guinea. Records show it never left Sydney at that time. It did eventually reach PNG in 1954 when owned by Papuan Air Transport. BMD swung on landing at Embi on December 18, 1954 and was written off. The smoke is from a steam train. In 1952 a goods line passed through the airport and crossed one of the runways. The track was later moved to take it outside the airport. It remained in use in 2025. This is the only remaining airworthy Anson I and is now owned and operated by RAF Station Czechoslovakia. It is pictured landing on rw09 at LKPD to make its public debut in the Northern Hemisphere at Aviatická pouť 2025. The plane was built in 1943 and after its wartime service flew as VH-BAF. It was restored to flying condition between 2003 to 2012 and registered ZK-RRA. However, the New Zealand owners decided to sell so it was transported to, and re-assembled in Belgium for acceptance before flying to its new owners home base at Podhorany (LKPN).

VH-BKA had been ferried into Evans Head from Bankstown airport for storage in the former RAAF hangars on the aerodrome. Its previous flight had been in 1948 when it was ferried to Bankstown from Geelong. Struck off register in 1951 as unairworthy. Continuing non-payment of hangarage fees at Bankstown and Evans Head saw BKA evicted from its hangar in 1956. It very quickly succumbed to the elements . Dave Eyre photo

Ex VL360. Registered to Railway Air Services in November 1945 and although transferred to BEA when they took over that company in 1947, it was declared surplus to requirements and sold to the Ministry for Civil Aviation. Bought by the Wiltshire School of Flying in August 1954 for operation in Germany and sold shortly afterwards as N9951F but withdrawn at Frankfurt and broken there in December 1957. Cancelled from the US register in 1971.

The first Anson T21 built was finished in 1947, and first flew in February 1948. It served until 1968, then kept at Llanbedr in Wales. From Llanbedr it went to Crowland, and on to Hinstock, before it was sold to the interesting Shannon Aviation Museum. The museum depicts the importance of Shannon airfield, one of Europe's most Western airports, the starting point for many transatlantic flights.

The date written on this photo is 12-4-1940 but with both the US (MM-DD-YYYY) and the more common international (DD-MM-YYYY) date styles used in Canada, the date was ambiguous. The April date has been used here because it is only three days after R3373 was delivered to the RCAF. A check of historical weather data reveals it did snow in Ottawa on April 11 and 12, 1940, so the presence of snow on the ground does not automatically rule out April. R3373 received the RCAF serial 6028, It was scrapped in 1943. Photo from: Library and Archives Canada
