This helicopter was modified by Orlando Helicopters, which were notorious for swapping data plates to suit their needs. When inspected in 1992, it carried the fake dataplate of HRS-1 127834 (c/n 55072), the serial that has been applied by the museum. But later inspection showed it also carries Orlando Helicopters modification plates confirming that the airframe is actually ex 138508 (HO4S-3, c/n 55555). It once flew as N95763, during which time it was - rather confusingly - fitted with yet another fake dataplate, this time claiming to be UH-19D 57-1619, c/n 551173. In short, this helicopter is conclusively identified as HO4S-3 c/n 55555, ex 138508, N95763. Thanks to Andy Marden for the info.

First flew 18th July 1962, taken on charge 1st August 1962. To Cyprus Sept.1983 as 8794M but brought back to the UK and stored 1985. Eventually went to the Gatwick Aviation Museum in July 1988 and is reported to have gone from there by June 2013 but with no details as to fate or whereabouts.

Previously XJ727 with 2 FTS, coded 'L', this Whirlwind was retired to No.1 SoTT at Halton for ground instructional use in 1980.

This UH-19D was in storage by the USAF Museum restoration hangars across the airfield from the museum when I took this slide. It is now at the Museum of Aviation at Warner Robins AFB, Georgia, but is currently being restored and not on display as of July 2022.

I took this slide from a US Navy C-9B taxiing out for a flight from Seoul to NAF Atsugi, Japan. This UH-19D was delivered to the US Army on 28 February 1958, and at a later date was transferred to the Republic of Korea Air Force. This UH-19D still exists, and is on display at the Korean Aerospace Institute Museum at Sacheon Airport.

Built new in 1954 for the USCG with CG s/n 1307. After retiring from the CG, it was registered as N1028. Exported to Canada and registered C-GGRK, which was eventually cancelled on 8 September 1987. This a/c was not technically on display at the airshow, but was parked just behind the aircraft that were on display.

Delivered to the Royal Navy in 1958. Seen here, based at HMS Fulmar, RN Lossiemouth, on static display at the 1971 Lossiemouth Airshow. Scrapped at Middle Wallop in 1998.

Originally built as a Whirlwind HAS7, f/f 24th October 1958. Delivered to FAA 8th December 1958. Converted to Whirlwind HAR9 by Westland Jan.1965-Feb.1966. Allocated to the flight aboard the Antarctic patrol ship HMS Protector by July 1966 (hence the penguin symbol displayed on the aircraft) to October 1966. Eventually to Predannack by December 1980 and ended its days there in 1993.

Ex Danish AF 88-884. Now preserved at Stauning Aircraft Museum in Denmark.

This was how XK911 had returned after its visit to the Glastonbury festival. The friendly Whirlwind had become a monstrous carnivorous helicopter ;-)

Ex US Navy (HO4S-3) 133744. Sold to South Africa as ZS-HDN on 19th November 1970, and now stored derelict at Swartkop, South Africa.

Flown to Catterick Fire School on 2 November 1981 for "ground instruction" as 8720M. It had perished by 1984.
