Late August 2008, this Mi-8 was new to the inventory of the United Nations aviation fleet at Abeche and still needed an UNO-inventory number. The helicopter was just transferred from UN-operations over Democratic Republic Congo (DRC) to Chad. On the 26 August 2008 it was making a test flight near Abeche airport in eastern Chad.
Just arrived for its new mission over Afghanistan, this Russian UN Humanitarian Air Services Mi-8 Hip was bought by an An-124 transport aircraft to the Asian country. The tail boom was still in its fuselage, so maintenance had a job to do.
