The a/c conducted 78 flights with NACA and was retired 10 June 1953. It is currently at the Sullenberger Aviation Museum (formerly the Carolinas Aviation Museum) in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Originally built for USAAF as A-24B 42-54582. Registered in 1954 as N4488N and used by city of Portland, OR. as a mosquito sprayer. Later to Aero Flight, Inc. of Troutland, OR. as fire tanker #60. In 1971 to Pacific Aeronautical Corp. and restored as a SBD-5. To Doug Champlin in 1974, and reregistered N17241. Sold to USMC Air & Ground Museum in 1975. Put on display with fake Bureau Number 17241. Later loaned to USAF Museum, where it was restored to A-24 configuration, and is currently on display in the WW2 gallery.

Delivered new to Century Airlines in 1931 as N11153. In 1932, Century was absorbed by American Airways. Later flown by Chicago and Southern Airways, and Chesapeake Airways. Converted to a bug sprayer, then purchased by R.P. Rice in 1964. Mr. Rice restored the a/c back to original configuration. In 1972 it was sold to Mr. Dave Allyn. In 1996 acquired by Yellowstone Aviation of Jackson, WY. To Pleasant Aviation, Inc. in 2019. This is the oldest surviving American Airlines aircraft. This a/c participated in the September 2003 National Air Tour and was assigned number "29" for the event.
