Seen here in RCN colours somewhere in the Tampa area after a heavy downpour, this Sea Fury owned by John Williams made its first post-restoration flight only two months earlier. Originally WN482 for the Royal Navy but diverted off-contract to the Iraqi AF as '310' in 1953, sadly it crashed at Harlingen on 9.10.81

This early Phantom (original designation F4H-1F) set a low-altitude speed record, still unbeaten, on 28.8.61, when Lts Huntington Hardisty (pilot) and Earl De Esch (RIO) flew her at 903 mph over a 3 km low-altitude course at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. The maximum altitude reached was only 125 ft, fully living up to the project name - Sageburner. 145307 is seen here at the NASM's storage facility with B-29 'Enola Gay'

Caught during the first few days of her lease from Finnair, in 1965 this was only the sixth DC-9 to be built. Firstly Air Canada's CF-TLC, she quickly passed to Trans Texas/International (N1792U). BMA registered her G-BMAH in 6.83 and in 12.95 she wound up in Colombia with Intercontinental as HK-4056X, ultimately being broken up at Bogotá in 09.03

One of 224 Packets built for the USAF (as 44-23033), of which about half were offered to the civil market from 1954, some undergoing Jet-Pak conversion by Steward-Davies with the addition of a J34 jet on top of the fuselage. Without this, the aircraft's engine-out performance was virtually zero. This one was not converted and was last registered to New Frontier Airlift Corp in Feb 1962, although still in USAF marks when seen here. Wreck noted during 2001 at Davis-Monthan in the yard of National Aircraft, Kolb Rd.

Seen after a heavy shower loaded and ready to head south again, this was one of three Electras operated by Aerocondor at the time, but the only pure freighter. Originally a Northwest Orient aircraft (N122US) from 7.59, she went on to AFA in 6.66 then a number of holiday and corporate firms before finding her way to Colombia in 10.75 as HK-1809 with Aerocosta shortly after conversion to cargo config. Initially intended for Northwest Orient, this DC-8 in fact went to Trans Caribbean as N8780R in 11.61 and then to Eastern in 1.64. Interswede took her for three months (as SE-DCR) in 11.71; she returned to that part of the world with Karair in 6.72. On lease to Cyprus Airways at the time of this shot (pure co-incidence that the last thing I uploaded before this was a Cyprus DC-8), she was wfu at Brussels in 2.85 and scrapped three months later
