This is actually F-4A 148275, which was the last F-4A built. It spent its entire active life assigned to VF-121 at NAS Miramar, CA. VF-121 was the first fleet squadron to receive the F-4, and was a crew training squadron. The aircraft has been on display at the USNA since 1969, and has been painted in the markings of several different squadrons over the years.

The aircraft is carrying a fake serial, as both 147920 and 157920 are not F-4 serials. Its real serial is thought to be F-4A 148261, but this is not confirmed.

This early Phantom (original designation F4H-1F) set a low-altitude speed record, still unbeaten, on 28.8.61, when Lts Huntington Hardisty (pilot) and Earl De Esch (RIO) flew her at 903 mph over a 3 km low-altitude course at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. The maximum altitude reached was only 125 ft, fully living up to the project name - Sageburner. 145307 is seen here at the NASM's storage facility with B-29 'Enola Gay'
