A VA-93 A-7A over the South China Sea. I took this slide from another VA-93 A-7A. Note the speed brake under the fuselage is not completely flush, which is not normal. VA-93 was conducting operations from USS Midway (CV-41) during this period. 153140 was assigned to VA-93 from 1973 through 24 April 1977. Retired to MASDC on 27 May 1977. In 1980 it as assigned to the Portuguese A-7P program as a parts airframe.

One of six HFB-320 Hansa Jets, which were operated by the Flugbereitschaft / Luftwaffe out of Cologne/Bonn airport. 16+02 had its first flight on 23/JUN/69 and still wears the older high visibility colours in this photo. In 1988, all six VIP-Hansa Jets were removed from military service; this one here saw further use in Turkey and finally as a freighter in the US. Last reported in derelict condition as N106TF at Louisville KY in 2013.

The accompanying text reads: "Delivery of the first 747SP for Pan Am On the first flight from Seattle (KSEA) to New York, the aircraft already transported cargo. In this photo you can see 2 other 747SP's being prepared for delivery; the second aircraft for Pan Am (N532PA), the first 747SP for Iran Air (EP-IAA) and the first 747SP for South African (ZS-SPD). At that time, 17 747SP's were ordered." Amusingly the text calls this aircraft the '747SP Junior Jumbo'. Delivered to United in February 1986 as N143UA. Withdrawn from use in August 1995, scrapped at Ardmore (KADM) late 1997/early 1998.

Interesting detail of air-to-ground shot. The former Ghana Air Force Caribous were owned by trader Joseph Masin and arrived here for overhaul in 1974. Photo proves the tie-up G-405 to N90570 for c/n 56. Both frames were eventually scrapped here, N90570 after an accident in October 1981, most probably on the ground. Also seen are two Noratlasses of the fraudulent Elbeflug company which never took off. Photo by: Jules Vogt / ETH-Bibliothek Zürich
