Part of the RAF long-range flight of three aircraft that flew non-stop from Ismailia, Egypt, to Darwin Australia in November 1938. L2638 was on a test flight out of RAAF Richmond on November 28 when it suffered engine trouble. and landed in a tomato crop. The aircraft was dismantled and taken back to Richmond. It was back to the UK. One of the other two (L3680) was also shipped back to the UK. The third (L3639) was substantially damaged in a forced landing in Western Australia. It remained in Australia as an instructional airframe until scrapped in 1944.

This aircraft was one of a batch of 500 built for the RAF in Christchurch, UK, but it was immediately diverted to the Commonwealth Air Forces. By 1966, only a few parts remained but included the cowlings. Nothing remained after a farm clearance sale in 1968.

Flying Leatherneck Aviation Museum would later move to MCAS Miramar but in 2023 it was announced it would return to El Toro. The former air station had become a park after its closure. However several of the hangars remained and will become the new home of the museum. Terry Waddington photo

Brunei Shell had at least four Princes - VR-UDA, UDB, UDC and UDR. One of these was sold to Singapore Air Services, which had least three aircraft. It is probable that its other Princes were ex Brunei too but that could not be confirmed at the time of upload. Terry Mowatt photo
