I had flown on it in the Canary Islands in Feb 1973. Seen here at Palma shortly before leaving for Miami where it underwent maintenance prior to delivery to Zantop International in Jul 1975 as N434TA. I was to see it and photograph it again again as N434TA with Zantop in Apr 1980 and again with Northern Air cargo in 1989.

This Turbo Mallard made at least two Atlantic crossings to spend some summer time in Scotland.

Built to an Australian order but allocated USAAC serial 41-23182 for admin purposes. Taken on RAAF charge 5 Dec 1941 as A16-112. Served with 14, 32 & 6 Sqns, RAAF Survey Flight. Sold 29 Nov 46 & acquired by East West Airlines, reg VH-BNJ Apr 49, later VH-EWA. Sold to Adastra Airways Jul 53 & re-reg VH-AIU, later VH-AGS. First flight as VH-KOY 10 Apr 93.

Slide scan from the NK collection. - Two years prior to the visit to Munich-Riem, N5DG had been acquired from the Luftwaffe, where it was registered as 12-01. Luftwaffe's colours are still visible, as well as the "01" in the tail. After a couple of operators in the US, the Convair was retired at Islip NY as N24AT and broken up after 1993.

5 Aug '43: TOS USAAF. 22 Aug: Departed Tucson, AZ, Modification Center and began flight to Egypt, arriving at Deversoir Field, Egypt on 7 September. After combat modifications it was delivered to the 512th Bomb Squadron/376th Bomb Group, Benghazi, Libya. 24 Sep: Squadron moved to Enfidaville, Tunisia. 17 Nov: Squadron moved to San Pancrazio, Italy. Flew a total of 56 missions, the last on being on 23 Feb '44. April/44: Due to obsolescence, the plane returned to the USA. September/44: Began storage tour, several bases. 12 May '59: Flown to the Air Force Museum at Patterson Field, Fairborn, OH.

Delivered to BEA as G-AWZZ in 1973. Merged into British Airways in 1974. Last flight to Birmingham for use as a fire trainer in 1984. Scrapped in 1999.

Operated by Air Bridge Carriers in ex-BEA colours without titles. Delivered to BEA as G-APEG in 1961. Converted to a Merchantman freighter in 1971. Merged into British Airways in 1974. To Air Bridge Carriers in 1979. Withdrawn from use at East Midlands in 1983 and used as a fire trainer. Scrapped in 1997.
