Not taken up by Lufthansa because the prohibition on West German aviation had not been lifted yet - the first two CV-340s to be delivered, D-ACAD and D-ACAH, arrived in Hamburg on 29 November 1954. This airframe was sold to the Union Carbide company. Its long list of operators does include the Luftwaffe from 1962 until 1973. Nose preserved at Cradle of Aviation Museum and painted in - different - Lufthansa livery. Photo from: Convair / San Diego Air & Space Museum

Slide scan from the NK collection. - Two years prior to the visit to Munich-Riem, N5DG had been acquired from the Luftwaffe, where it was registered as 12-01. Luftwaffe's colours are still visible, as well as the "01" in the tail. After a couple of operators in the US, the Convair was retired at Islip NY as N24AT and broken up after 1993.

On display at the Cradle of Aviation Museum. This aircraft was built as a CV-340-68 and was converted to a CV-440. It served with a number of airlines, and with the Luftwaffe as 12+01. Its last civil registration was N24AT. This nose section has been painted to represent a Lufthansa Convairliner. Lufthansa flew four CV-340s and seven CV-440s on short-haul routes, inaugurating its domestic services on April 1, 1955.
