This P-40 served in the Pacific with the USAAF as 41-19841 and was eventually abandoned on Espiritu Santu, Vanuatu. Fortunately she was rescued from the jungle in the 1970 and has been restored as 'Lee's Hope', flown by 1st Lt. Robert J. Duffield in North Africa/Mediterannean. Now on display at the National Museum of Naval Aviation this Coronado is the last survivor of 210 built and was intended as a larger, higher perfomance variant of the Catalina. This aircraft served as an executive transport taking the staff of Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz to Tokyo for the Japanese surrender ceremony on 2nd September 1945.
