After retirement from the USAF this Aardvark went to AMARC as AAFV0219 in 1995. After being rescued from the desert for display she eventually wound up at Cosford in 2005 to form part of the Cold War exhibition. Not an easy one at the RAF Museum to photograph!

Built in 1953 for service with the Fleet Air Arm as WP495, she is seen here painted in S-51 BEA colours. The real G-AJOV had the claim to fame in that it inaugurated the world's first ever scheduled helicopter service that operated between Liverpool and Cardiff.

Of all the thousands of Spifires produced this one, on display at the RAF Museum, is rather special. In total 1566 Mk.1s were built and this genuine Battle of Britain veteran is the oldest surviving such airframe and, therefore, the oldest Spitfire anywhere!

The RAF Museum at Cosford has the only surviving, complete example of the Valiant. Indeed, at Cosford one can also see a Vulcan and a Victor, so is the only place where all three British V-bombers are on display.

This Defiant was operated by No 307 (Polish) Squadron RAF from September 1940 and is the only complete example extant, being fortunately earmarked for preservation as early as September 1944. Photographed here after having returned to RAF Museum Hendon following a complete restoration by the Medway Aircraft Preservation Society at Rochester Airport It was reassembled for display in early 2013.

The Pioneer was one of the original STOL aircraft being able to take-off across runways rather than along them! This aircraft served with the RAF between 1958 to 68 and served in Cyprus, Libya, Singapore and Sarawak. At retirement she was allocated for museum display and arrived at Cosford during April 89.

This aircraft is painted in the colours that flown by FL Jack Cleland (RNZAF) in the 8th USAF, 357 FG, 361 FS during WWII. There appears to be some confusion in the previous identities of this airframe, possibly arising from rebuild after a crash in 1977, although she was built in 1944 and delivered to the USAF as 44-73415.

Correct serial is XN962. This aircraft was delivered to the Royal Navy during July 1964 and served at Lossiemouth until 1970. Thereafter she was transferred to St. Athan and allocated the Maintenance serial 8181M before being moved to PEE (Proof & Experimental Establishment) at Foulness 1986. Unfortunately the axeman came calling and she was broken up in 1992, although the nose section has at least survived and is now on display at Cosford.

The Argus operated in RAF service in the unsung but vital liason, communication and ferry roles. This particular aircraft served during WWII with the US 8th AF but was civilianised in 1947 as G-AIZE. She is painted to represent an aircraft operating in the South East Asia Command after arriving at Cosford during 1999.
