A Convair 340 bought new by Napier in 1954 for use as an engine test bed for their Eland turboprop engines and registered G-ANVP. Here, despite being registered to Turboprop Conversions Inc., it somehow got mixed up in the Canadair CL-66 program where they were installing Eland turbos in 440 airframes and also calling it the Convair 540. Just to confuse things, airframe c/n 445 was registered N440EL with an almost identical livery. This one was converted to 440 in 1963 and ended up with Salair as N358SA in 1988; getting wrecked at Spokane (KGEG) on 5 January 1996 when it ran out of fuel.

First registered in 1957 and operated by DH, displaying their titles on the side, until export to Itavia as I-AOVE in September 1961. In 1964 it went to Cimber Air as OY-AFN, then to Prinair as N563PR in 1968. On 5 March 1969 it was vectored into terrain near San Juan/PR by a trainee controller and destroyed with the loss of all on board. Enough of it survived (c/n plate maybe) for a rebuild in 1971, with Lycoming engines, as N575PR. On 24 July 1979 the rebuild was wrecked attempting take-off from St. Croix/USVI at 1000 lbs. overweight and with CG aft of limit.

A poor quality shot but worth uploading for the 'Troop Carrier' titles, the snow and its long and interesting history. Briefly, it was converted to AC-130A gunship configuration in 1970 then took part in the Vietnam conflict sustaining and surviving hits from 37 and 57mm artillery on various occasions. Having returned to the USA in 1972 for a structural tune-up it took part in Operation Desert Storm in 1994. After retirement it was put on display at Hurlburt Field Memorial Air Park, Florida.

Delivered in 1953 as PH-TFU then re-registered as above. It made the first visit of a commercial Super Constellation to Heathrow (EGLL) on 3 September 1953. It carries a 40 year anniversary sticker which would date the shot more closely to 1959 than the dates given. Initially a 1049C, but it would have been converted to 1049E by this time. Withdrawn at Amsterdam in November 1961 and scrapped in June 1963.
