The former G-AMCA on Aviodrome's museum display, painted as "PH-ALR" in the orange KLM/Holland colours of WW II

Ex 44-76634 with the USAAF and KN487 with the RAF. Operated by Air Atlantique between July 1977 and June 1988 as G-AMCA. Cancelled in October 2003 and to the Aviodrome. It is painted in a short-lived pre-war orange livery. In September 1939, a KLM DC-3 operating a flight from Copenhagen to Amsterdam was shot at by a German fighter. After this, KLM put the word 'Holland' on the fuselage in large font, to prevent further misunderstandings (The Netherlands was (still) neutral at the time). At some point, the orange livery was introduced to further lower the threat to KLM's aircraft.

Delivered new in 1956 and here taxiing past an example of its nemesis - The Jet Age. After only 15 years service it was scrapped at Miami (KMIA) as HR-TNM in May 1971. [Seen at EGLL in June 1962, subbing for a Boeing 707.]

PH-ALR undertook two route proving flights to South Africa, the first in December 1938 and the second in January 1940 despite the outbreak of WWII. Crew and passengers departed Amsterdam by train and boarded the aircraft in Naples which had become the European terminus of KLM's East Indies route. Note neutrality markings. Photo from: DRISA

Painted in the 1939/40 Dutch "neutrality" markings. Aircraft is the retired G-AMCA. PH-ALR was one of KLM's pre-war DC-3s (c/n 1939). The name "Reiger" is written in small letters on the nose cone.
