Broken up in May 1970 at East Midlands Airport in May 1970 when operated by British Midland Airways

This aircraft was delivered to BOAC on 18th October 1949 as "Aeolus" and was used on the East African royal tour in April 1954. It was sold to the Royal Rhodesian Air Force in December 1959 as serial 179, later changed to 600-M and VP-YZM. Restored as G-ALHW to Air Links Ltd. in July 1964 ownership was transferred to Transglobe Airways Ltd. in August 1965. In October 1965 it was ferried to Redhill and then to Castle Donnington in March 1966 where it was broken up to provide spares for the British Midland Airways Canadair fleet. Canadian AF 17514 was transferred to the Aeronautical Establishment as CF-SVP-X in 1965. Fitted with tailboom for magnetic survey gear, for mapping of the earth's magnetic field, and to develop submarine detection gear. Last operational flight as such on 8 May 1975. Offered for sale in November 1978, and sold to Aircraft Salvage of Dallas Inc. in February 1979. Became N8022L in August 1979 (registration in very small print on the tail in this photo). Alledgedly used for smuggling in the Caribbean during the early 1980s. Stored (possibly seized) at Great Inagua, Bahamas, and broken up there in the early 1980s.

Overseas Aviation ceased operations in August 1961 and most of their fleet of former Trans Canada Airlines Canadair DC4M and C-4 North Stars ended up in storage at Coventry. CF-TFT was one of the first to be ferried from Gatwick on 21st October 1961. Having failed to attract a buyer, the aircraft was broken up in 1965.

Later to Derby Airways whose name changed to British Midland on 1 October 1964. Withdrawn from service in October 1967.

Delivered to the RCAF as 17515 in 1948. Retired at Rockcliffe by 1971 and preserved. The only survivor of the type.

Delivered to BOAC in May 1949 and leased to East African Airways Corporation in February 1959 as VP-KOY but was sold only three months later to Overseas Aviation. Its final operator it was Flying Enterprise (OY-AFC). It was broken up in Copenhagen in 1965.

Withdrawn from use Nov 1967.

The one and only Canadair C-5, like most Canadian built DC-4, was pressurised but uniquely powered by Pratt and Whitney R-2800 radials engines as used on the DC-6. The RR Merlin engines of all other Canadair-built DC-4s resulted in very high cabin noise and the C-5 was always intended as a VIP aircraft. The aircraft was wrecked at Hall Beach/NU (CYUX) on 1 February 1962 when three engines failed after take-off due loss of oil pressure. It had been left outside for about 90 minutes in -37 deg temperature with 15 mph wind and the oil had started to congeal resulting in blown gaskets and oil coolers etc.
