North Star 17515 shows it is in urgent need of some TLC outside the Canada Aviation Museum at Rockcliffe in 2005.

Taken on strength in 1948 and the flag on the tail indicates it was carrying UN troops and supplies to the Belgian Congo. Struck off strength at CFB Mountainview in 1964 and scrapped.

Canadian AF 17514 was transferred to the Aeronautical Establishment as CF-SVP-X in 1965. Fitted with tailboom for magnetic survey gear, for mapping of the earth's magnetic field, and to develop submarine detection gear. Last operational flight as such on 8 May 1975. Offered for sale in November 1978, and sold to Aircraft Salvage of Dallas Inc. in February 1979. Became N8022L in August 1979 (registration in very small print on the tail in this photo). Alledgedly used for smuggling in the Caribbean during the early 1980s. Stored (possibly seized) at Great Inagua, Bahamas, and broken up there in the early 1980s.

Delivered to the RCAF as 17515 in 1948. Retired at Rockcliffe by 1971 and preserved. The only survivor of the type.

The aircraft was wrecked at Hall Beach/NU (CYUX) on 1 February 1962 when three engines failed after take-off due loss of oil pressure. It had been left outside for about 90 minutes in -37 deg temperature with 15 mph wind and the oil had started to congeal resulting in blown gaskets and oil coolers etc.

Built in 1947 and struck off charge in 1966 to become CF-VLY. Scrapped at Sarasota/FL.

This North Star served with the RCAF from 8 March 1948 until 27 September 1965. It wears a UN flag here. It carried UN troops to Congo in 1960. The belly radar was supposedly fitted 'briefly' during the late 1950s. As N8022, the aircraft flew in the Caribbean until about 1980, allegedly used in smuggling operations. Looking into the cockpit of RCAF 17522 North Star. In May 2010 this cockpit was noted stored outside the Reynolds-Alberta Museum at nearby Wetaskiwin, and it was still there in April 2015.

The nose section of RCAF 17522, a North Star built by Canadair for the RCAF. This aircraft was based on the Douglas DC-4 but with Rolls Royce Merlin engines and was not pressurized. While it was much faster than the radial engined DC-4 it was known to be extremely noisy. Buffalo Joe obtained this section many years ago and it has sat outside since then. The sole surviving example of the 71 North Stars built is on display at the Canadian Aviation and Space Museum in Ottawa, Ontario.

Taken on strength March 8, 1948, this North Star took part in the type's stand down ceremony at RCAF Station Trenton on December 8, 1965. Donated to the National Aeronautical Collection, the aircraft spent the next 40 years stored outside due to lack of space. Presently housed in the re-named Canadian Aviation and Space Museum's storage/restoration building opened in 2005, it has been undergoing restoration by volunteers on and off as time and space permit.

The last remaining North Star is undergoing restoration in the Reserve Collection hangar at the Canada Aviation Museum.

Royal Canadian Air Force Merlin-powered North Star on finals to Ringway to pick up RCAF pilots who had flown a batch of Sabre 2's to Manchester from Canadair's Montreal plant. 17514 served from 03.48 until sale as CF-SVP-X in 09.65.

The unforgettable sight of a DC-4 taxiing to the soundtrack of a Lancaster! This Argonaut was built in 1947 and served the RCAF till 1966. Here on one of her last ever journeys, with the Air Turks "AT" logo on the fin, she was stored at Sarasota soon after this slide was captured and sadly broken up during 1976
