The North Star was a Canadian development of the Douglas C-54/DC-4, with some features of the DC-6. This airframe was manufactured in 1948 by Canadair Limited in Montreal, Quebec and was delivered to the RCAF in March of that year. It spent its entire career with No. 426 Squadron. It is the only surviving North Star. The plane is still undergoing renovation, but so far it doesn't look any better than in previous photos.

North Star 17515 shows it is in urgent need of some TLC outside the Canada Aviation Museum at Rockcliffe in 2005.

Delivered to the RCAF as 17515 in 1948. Retired at Rockcliffe by 1971 and preserved. The only survivor of the type.

Transport Command aircraft

Transport Command aircraft.

Taken on strength March 8, 1948, this North Star took part in the type's stand down ceremony at RCAF Station Trenton on December 8, 1965. Donated to the National Aeronautical Collection, the aircraft spent the next 40 years stored outside due to lack of space. Presently housed in the re-named Canadian Aviation and Space Museum's storage/restoration building opened in 2005, it has been undergoing restoration by volunteers on and off as time and space permit.

The last remaining North Star is undergoing restoration in the Reserve Collection hangar at the Canada Aviation Museum.

Delivered to the Royal Canadian Air Force in March 1948. By 1971 retired and stored in a snowdrift at the Rockcliffe museum.
