The Avro Anson served in the Royal Air Force from 1936 until 1968! TX238 was part of an order for 85 Anson C.19 communications aircraft built at Yeadon in 1946. TX238 collided with a Sabre, XB634, on approach to Wildenrath on 5 April 1955. All three pilots were killed. The Anson then belonged to 2nd Tactical Air Force Communications Squadron. It seems to be wearing two general's stars on the tailfin here.

Ex VL348. Registered to T.A.T. Limited (Tippers Air Transport) on 6 October 1967. Sold to the British Historic Aircraft Museum at Southend, Essex G-AVVO moved there in September 1968. The venture did not work as anticipated and her condition deteriorated to the extent that in 1971 she was being used as spares for the Historic Aircraft Museum's other Anson. During 1970/71 the Newark Air Museum 's Anson, G-ALIH, was being restored but was partly destroyed by fire in May '71. G-AVVO was acquired to replace it by utilising G-ALIH's wings and 'VO's fuselage.

R9816 was an RAF Anson I that was converted to an Anson IV at Woodford by exchanging the Armstrong Siddeley Cheetah engines for Wright R-975 Whirlwinds. After testing in the UK, it was shipped Canada where it received the serial 10257. Canadian produced Ansons were fitted with Jacobs L-6 and Pratt and Whitney R-985 radials to avoid transatlantic transport vulnerabilities. The Wright powered model remained a one-off. Note that some sources incorrectly state that the conversion to an Anson IV took place in Canada. Photo from: Imperial War Museums

This was the first production Anson. It was moved around between the Avro factory at Woodford and A&AEE at Martlesham Heath, RAE Farnborough and RAF Gosport, which focused on naval and coastal operations and training. In 1939 it was finally delivered to an operational squadron. On October 13 that year K6152 overran RAF Catterick and was wrecked. Photo from: Imperial War Museums
