VH-BKA had been ferried into Evans Head from Bankstown airport for storage in the former RAAF hangars on the aerodrome. Its previous flight had been in 1948 when it was ferried to Bankstown from Geelong. Struck off register in 1951 as unairworthy. Continuing non-payment of hangarage fees at Bankstown and Evans Head saw BKA evicted from its hangar in 1956. It very quickly succumbed to the elements . Dave Eyre photo

VH-WEJ had its Cirrus engines replaced by Lycoming O-290s in 1956. Its flying career in Australia ended when aircraft constructed with synthetic resin glues were grounded in 1963. By that time it had been reregistered twice. VH-BOB, as it had become, was trucked about museums until sold in the UK where it is to be restored as G-AKHU.

VH-AAG became derelict at Darwin after damage caused when it hit a kangaroo in 1963 was deemed uneconomical to repair. It was taken to the Leanyea Range and used as a ground target for RAAF Sabres.

Meteor NF.11's WD745 (nearest) and WD743 were modified by Fairey Aviation at Ringway for use in Fairey Fireflash guided missile airborne launches. The actual tests were carried out over the Irish Sea from RAF Valley, Anglesey.
