At the time of the photo, VH-BMD was owned by Amphibious Airways of Papua New Guinea. Records show it never left Sydney at that time. It did eventually reach PNG in 1954 when owned by Papuan Air Transport. BMD swung on landing at Embi on December 18, 1954 and was written off. The smoke is from a steam train. In 1952 a goods line passed through the airport and crossed one of the runways. The track was later moved to take it outside the airport. It remained in use in 2025.
