The V-54A, NX21754, was the prototype of the BT-13 Valiant. Soon this apron would be filled with BT-13s and BT-15s, 11,537 of which were built here by a workforce of some 30,000 people. This aircraft was sold to Peru. Photo from: San Diego Air & Space Museum

42-29782 had already been a war monument for several years when Max and John Biegert made it airworthy again as a heavy agricultural spraying aircraft, installing seven chemical tanks in the fuselage and two F-94 Starfire tip tanks underwing. It became a fire bomber in May 1960, perhaps after this accident, and starred in several war movies. It is now at the Museum of Flight in Seattle. Photo by: Jack Lindsay / City of Vancouver Archives

A Bristol Fighter at an airfield near 'San Quentin' (Saint-Quentin). The crew is given as 'Captain H.P. Sales and Lieutenant W.H. Welsh', but the pilot is almost certainly Horace Percy Lale, an ace credited with 23 aerial victories including four Fokker D.VIIs scored in E2407 with No 20 Sqn in October 1918. A group photo is dated 13 November 2018, just after Armistice Day. The squadron was then based at Elincourt - Iris Farm, 23 km (14 miles) north of Saint-Quentin. The Grumman SF was a reconnaissance variant of the FF 'Fifi', little different from the two-seat fighter. The FF and SF were both retired from first-line US Navy squadrons by the end of 1936 and allocated to Naval Air Reserve units. On the left is BuNo 9471. Year approximate, probably close. We wondered about the cyclist visible in photo 359967, thought to have been taken in Vancouver. But bikes were clearly popular in this forward-thinking city. Photo by: James Crookall / City of Vancouver Archives

Walrus K8341 / 780 was carried by the cruiser HMS Exeter in the Pacific, together with K8343 / 769. Both aircraft visited the airshow at Vancouver in 1937 and this photo was most probably taken there. The badge on the tailfin, a lion on waves, is Exeter's. K8341 may have become a victim of the German pocket battleship Graf Spee when her gunfire struck Exeter off the Rio de la Plata on 13 December 1939. Photo from: San Diego Air & Space Museum

Nice shot of what was the prototype of the Schafer DC-3-65T conversion, marketed by AMI. Operated here for the Red Cross by Rossair Kenya, the aircraft was busy transporting patients from South Sudan. The original C-47B, 43-49824, served in the British, American, Belgian and French air forces. Photo by: Boris Heger / International Committee of the Red Cross

The Riviera touring amphibian was designed by the Nardi factory, reworked by Fiat and ultimately produced by SIAI-Marchetti. It is thought that I-RAIA may be c/n 001, the first production aircraft going to the USA as N73902, and may have been remanufactured from c/n 4, I-EUST. N73902 sold as N622 and crashed in Louisiana in July 1964. See Steinar's Hangar website for more information. Photo from: Nationaal Archief (Netherlands)
